About Austin Jones

Personal Information

I was raised in Manchester, Missouri. I graduated from Parkway West High School in 1982.  I went on to attend and graduate from the University of Missouri – St. Louis (UMSL) in 1986.  In August 1987, I married my wife Donna and have been a resident of Warren County ever since.  My wife Donna attended Wright City Schools as a student and taught with the district for 31 years, retiring at the end of the 2020-2021 school year.  My three daughters graduated from Wright City High School.

I am a life long learner, and as a member of the Wright City R-II Board of Education, I hope to instill this trait in each and every student.

I have earned both my Advanced and Master MSBA board member certificates.

Educational Background

I graduated from UMSL with a B.S.B.A (Bachelor of Science in Business Administration) with an emphasis in Management Information Systems (M.I.S) and a minor in German.  My cumulative GPA was 3.78 / 4.0 scale.  As a student at UMSL, I was a foreign exchange student and worked at a small German company call Kienzle Apparate, which is now Kienzle Computer.

Work Experience

May 1984 – May 1987 – Boise Cascade Consumer Packaging Division

During my last two years at UMSL, I was an intern at Boise Cascade.  My job duties included modifying reports for the business and debugging and fixing programs.  Once I graduated from UMSL, Boise Cascade hired me as a full time computer programmer.

May 1987 – August 1988 – McDonnell Douglas

I was responsible for writing programs to support Bell Canada, a client of McDonnell Douglas’ commercial division.

August 1988 – November 2002 – Union Pacific Technologies (Union Pacific Railroad)

I was originally responsible for writing programs to support rail shipments.  The software supported both Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and various shipping documents, such as bills of lading.  Later, I moved on to support both the accounts payable and the contract and real estate departments. I worked on automating accounts payable via imaging and workflow as well as efforts to image old railroad contracts and real estate documents.

November 2002 – Present – Express Scripts a Cigna Company

As a information technology professional, I originally worked in home delivery pharmacy automating the processing of prescriptions and maintain the order to cash application.  My current duties include working with business partners, determining how the applications can be adapted to better serve our mail order patients.  I am also responsible for writing high level design documents to aid the engineering teams on how to modify the software to meet the business requirements.

In the past three years, I have received the following professional certifications:

  • ISC Certified Information System Security Professional
  • AWS Certified Cloud Practioner

Hobbies and Volunteer Activities

When I am not working, I can be found doing a variety of outdoor activities.  First and foremost, I am an avid vegetable gardener.  When I am not gardening, I actively play slow pitch softball and I also enjoy walking and other outdoor sports such as tennis.

I volunteer for three organizations.

Wright City Lions Club

The motto of the Lions Club International is “We Serve”  As a Lion, I do my best to put this into practice.  I am the treasurer of the Wright City Lions Club and am responsible for renting the hall.  The Wright City Lions Club allows the Junior Wright City Wrestlers to utilize the building free of charge so the team has a reliable practice facility.  My goal as an active member of the Wright City Lions Club is to increase its ability to serve the community.

Tribute to Veterans Memorial (Warrenton, MO)

Originally, I was asked to join the organization to develop and maintain its web site.  For the past 14 months, I am also the treasurer of the Tribute to Veterans Memorial.

Blue and Gold Scholarship Committee

As a member of Blue and Gold, my primary duties include helping out with the annual Blue and Gold Auction Dinner held at the Wright City Lions Club.  I attend planning meetings and perform tasks the leaders of the organization assign to me.  Over the years, the Blue and Gold Auction Committee has raised over $300,000 for scholarships.

Miscellaneous and Summary Statement
